The Conflict-Free Diamond Council realizes that asking for major reform in the diamond industry is an extensive and costly process. However, the CFDC firmly believes that implementing such policies and procedures will help ensure a highly profitable and socially-conscious marketplace.
The Conflict-Free Diamond Council endorses all the recommendations put forth by Global Witness in their May 2000 report, "Conflict Diamonds: Possibilities for the Identification, Certification and Control of Diamonds".
These comprehensive recommendations are realistic, and outline the installation of a regulatory framework for both governments and the diamond industry. The recommendations provide guidance to all sectors of the diamond industry including Producer Governments, Trading and Importing Countries, Diamond Traders, Polishers, Manufacturers, and Retailers.
